Once, long ago, there was a prince named Sigemund. He was strong and tall, and he could snap chains over his chest by breathing hard. Because he ruled wisely and used his strength only for good, he was loved by all his subjects.

None loved him more than his nephew Fitela. The two men were as different as night and day. Fitela was little and shy. Nobody ever saw Sigemund and Fitela apart. Even in battle they were together.
