Wealhtheow
woke from a dream of a sow eating her farrow. Noticing that the
arm was gone from the hook, she woke Hrothgar and Beowulf. Hrothgar
found Aeschere and moaned, "He was my best friend! Unferth
must pay for this!"
Noticing the spoor, Beowulf
asked Wealhtheow about other monsters more terrible than Grendel.
She thought and exclaimed, "Grendel's Mother! But I thought
she was a legend!" Upon hearing this, Beowulf vowed to find
her and kill her before she kills again.
